Stamp - Somass River Steelhead Fishing

Three adjoining streams flow from Great Central Lake (Stamp River) and Sproat Lake (Sproat River), southeast to the Alberni Inlet. The moderately sized Stamp and Sproat rivers join to form the large Somass River. This makes for a freshwater fisherman's paradise!

The system boasts good summer steelhead and great winter steelhead runs. Chuck from Vancouver B.C. with an eight pound hatchery steelhead caught in the Stamp. Summer runs are fished in the upper Stamp River. Winter runs are primarily fished in the lower Stamp River (below Stamp Falls) and Somass Rivers. However, the best steelhead is in the lower river below "the bucket" below this area anglers can use bait above it is only artificials.

Richard Korowicki from California w/steelhead caught Dec. 29th 2006 The Stamp and Somass Rivers are some of the highest producing Steelhead rivers on the Vancouver Island. Winter Steelhead fishing with Slivers Charters usually begins near the end of November and continues into March.
